Very extensive papers encompass architectural drawings, photographs, and correspondence. Material covers his designs for office and other buildings, apartments, the Barcelona Pavilion (the German Pavilion at the International Exhibition, Barcelona, Spain in 1929), and designs of furniture. Most of his ideas were not executed. Buildings he designed are located in Berlin, Chicago and other American cities, Toronto, and Montreal. His famous buildings represented by material in the collection include Friedrichstrasse in Berlin, Glass Skyscraper, Concrete Office Building, and Brick Country House. The collection includes sketches by Mies and his associates; presentation drawings; working drawings; blueprints from the Mies office and blueprints of shop drawings from suppliers; architectural models; sketches, studies, and working drawings of furniture by Mies and Lilly Reich; drawings by other architects for the Weissenhofsiedlung; photocopies of drawings by Bauhaus students; and work-related correspondence between Mies' office and clients, contractors, and salesmen supplying equipment. Photographs depict the construction of the building, the completed building and the opening event, as well as the building site. Research materials include books, periodicals, and tape-recorded interviews with Mies and with people in some way associated with him.
